LUCY Bailes is a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London, where she completed a Master of Music Performance. She has been bopping along to music since she was two when her favourite dancing music was Great Opera Choruses of the World. She commenced piano lessons at three, violin at four, and won her first concerto competition at fourteen. She went on to lead four orchestras and play leading roles in many musicals and operas. She also holds a Graduate Certificate in Music, a Bachelor of Arts and an A. Mus A. She is trained in Early Childhood Music (Piano).
Lucy was a finalist in the National Aria Competition and the McDonalds Aria, semi finalist in the Sun Aria and has won over 150 prizes and scholarships in Violin, Voice, Piano, and Speech and Drama. These included the Elizabeth Todd Lieder Prize, 2MBS Even Younger Performer Award, the Layne Beachley Aim for the Stars, and an Opera & Arts Support Group Scholarship. She has performed in some of the world's most iconic places: the United Nations, the rooftop of the Rockefeller Centre, Trinity College Dublin, Washington Cathedral, the Juilliard School New York, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields London, St George's Chapel Windsor, Westminster Abbey and The Sydney Opera House. During her studies in England, Ireland, France, USA and Australia, she has been taught by such leading artists as Emma Kirkby, Jane Edwards, Dame Sarah Walker, Nicholas Parle, David Harper, Andrew Dalton, Lorraine Nubar and Dalton Baldwin. Whilst studying for her Masters, her principal teacher was Yvonne Kenny and she continues to work with renowned tenor, Glenn Winslade.
Lucy loves teaching and has a passion for Music Education that has grown during her 20 years of teaching. She is as happy working with very young students as she is with older children and professionals.. She specialises in Performance practice, Vocal pedagogy, HSC preparation, spoken voice technique and all levels of Violin and Voice from beginners to advanced. She will prepare students for exams, anuditions and competitions, or students may learn for the sheer fun of singing and playing!
